The latest developments in urosurge services include a super specialty clinic, “ The Prostate Clinic “  specifically meant for the evaluation of Men’s health problems : an area  that is now emerging as a major public health issue. BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia, the common problem of prostate enlargement affects almost 80 % of men above the age of 80.    It is now believed that BPH may be associated with other metabolic disorders like obesity and lipid abnormalities, as well as erectile dysfunction. With an ageing population prostate cancer is also being diagnosed more and more frequently. There is need to integrate clinical developments in this field and offer holistic treatments for prostate conditions to men in a dedicated clinic.

The author is a national expert on prostate cancer, with more than 12 years experience in prostate cancer as a visiting Urologist and Advisor at Cancer Centre and Welfare Home, Thakurpukur. He is a member of various national committees in the field of prostate cancer and urological cancers. With this background he has now accepted a leadership position as Head of the Department, Uro oncology clinic at AMRI Hospitals, Kolkata, where multidisciplinary treatments are provided for urological cancer treatment involving radiotherapists, oncologists, pathologists and surgeons. This is the first clinic of such nature in Eastern India.

The author has been recently honoured as member of the teaching faculty at the Asian Congress of Urology, 2008, just concluded at New Delhi, where he delivered a lecture on : “ Difficulties in the early diagnosis of prostate cacner in India “ in the Asian Society of Uro-oncology sub specialty meeting.

The author was also invited to become the Zonal representative for the East Zone Section of the Urological Society of India, for the Education Cell involved in post graduate teaching activities in the Eastern states.

The author has recently been accepted as the Principal Investigator for an international clinical drug trial for advanced prostate cancer; he is one of 154 such investigators world wide.

Last but not least, the author continues his voluntary services at RKM Seva Pratishthan where he has set up a urology department of high standards which is now accredited for postgraduate training for DNB in Urology. He is also now appointed as Assistant Professor of Urology in the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences.
